AngleStar

A precision electronic tool to measure doctor blade angle and level condition.

Features/Benefits

Determining Proper Blade Angle

For more than 60 years, Kadant Web Systems has been manufacturing and supplying doctors and doctor blades to paper mills throughout the world. From this experience, we know that efficient doctoring results not only from using the right doctor blade and holder, but also from ensuring correct blade angle and alignment for a particular roll position. To help mill personnel quickly measure and set the correct blade angle and alignment, Kadant Web Systems has developed the AngleStar. This self-contained, lightweight, hand-held tool allows you to accurately read doctor blade angles without having to perform multiple measurements or complicated arithmetic.

Determining Measurements

A removable foot with a center line is attached to the bottom of the housing. To determine blade angle, the AngleStar is first placed on the roll surface with the foot's center line at the point of blade contact. This establishes a tangential reference. An alternate reference push-button is provided so that the user can set the tangential reference to 0 (zero). The AngleStar is then placed on the doctor blade surface to measure the actual doctor blade angle. The blade angle can be read directly from the digital display without changing the orientation of the sensor with respect to the housing. A "hold" push-button is also provided to "freeze" the display in cases where the display is not readable from where the measurement is being taken.

Design Features

Powered by a 9-volt battery mounted within the device, a liquid-filled angle sensor and microprocessor display blade angles from 0 to 360 degrees. The sensor is fixed rigidly to the circuit board which is mounted inside the tool's protective housing. The housing is compact in design and machined from corrosion-resistant aluminum and plastic. These features allow the AngleStar to be used in hard-to-reach locations.
